As a charity, we depend on the generosity of like-minded individuals and organizations to aid us in bringing our valuable programing to students. How will my donation make a difference?

 

Your donation will support children's literacy programs in Alberta. YABS inspires children to read and write by sending Alberta children's book authors and illustrators into classrooms and libraries to spark their imaginations and get them excited about literacy. Why is literacy so important? Strong literacy skills provide a solid foundation for lifelong learning. Low literacy levels are linked to poverty, crime, poor health, unemployment and low quality of life. Alberta's children deserve a bring future. With your donation, YABS will continue to help Alberta's children and youth on the path to learning and success.

 

Your donation also supports Alberta's children's literary arts.YABS also supports and promotes Alberta authors, illustrators and storytellers through our online artist directory, educational workshops/seminars, literary arts festival, literacy programs and booking/referral program. There is also the ever growing Alberta Collection which serves as both an archive of Albertan artists and as a lending library available to educators, student teachers, and student librarians.

 

Is my donation tax deductible?

 

Yes. YABS is a registered charity so you will receive a tax receipt for your donation. If you are resident of Alberta you can get a larger tax refund on your donation thanks to the Community Spirit Program introduced by the Alberta Government in 2008. Including the federal tax credit, Albertans will now receive a 50-cent non-refundable tax credit for every dollar donated over $200.

 

How can I make a bigger difference?

 

There are many ways you can increase your donor power and make an even bigger difference.

1. Employee Matched Giving Program: ask your employer about gift matching. Many companies have a program in place to support their employees' charities of choice.
2. Give the "Gift of Literacy": On special occasions, instead of a regular gift, consider a gift that makes a difference by making a donation in their honour to YABS.
3. Tell Your Friends and Family: Let your friends and family know that you support YABS and why. You may inspire them to give the gift of literacy too!
4. Fundraising Event: Whether it's a community barbecue, a holiday party, a concert, a book sale, a read-a-thon or a dinner party you can have fun and raise money for your favorite charity, YABS!
5. Automatic Monthly Giving: Show your ongoing support to YABS every month with a pre-authorized monthly donation. Payments will automatically come off of your credit card for the amount of time you choose. Simply check the monthly giving option on the Canada Helps YABS donation page. Another way to donate! In Alberta, you can help the Young Alberta Book Society by donating your car, truck, RV, trailer, boat, motorcycle or even airplane! It's easy! Just go to www.donatecar.ca and submit your vehicle information. The folks at Donate A Car Canada will then respond with directions of where to take your vehicle in Alberta. Donate A Car Canada will act as your agent to sell your vehicle with the net sale proceeds donated to the charity of your choice. Remember to select the Young Alberta Book Society as the charity of your choice and we'll send you a valuable tax receipt for the donated amount!

 

How do I make my donation?

 

You can donate online with your credit card. Simply click the Donate Now "Canada Helps" icon at the top of the page. This will direct you to a secure web site to make your donation safely. Canada Helps is a reputable non-profit that allows you to make donations to your charity of choice quickly, easily and safely.
